For a quick overview of the Verbling platform (for teachers), please watch the following video; for more detailed information, please continue reading below:
1. Create an attractive profile
Verbling doesn't assign students to teachers, nor you can reach out to new students that haven't visited your profile. But as a new teacher, you will be given a boost in ranking, which will make you appear on top of the teachers' list--so be sure to create an attractive, professional profile!
2. Interacting with students
Students have the option to buy 1 lesson, 5 lessons, 10 lessons, 20 lessons or a 30-minute trial lesson (if you decide to offer them). When a student books a private lesson with you, you will be notified with a message in your Verbling inbox; we will also send a notification to your email address.
If you receive a booking from a student, use the messaging system to determine the student's level of proficiency and style of learning, as well as to help you prepare relevant materials for them. Make sure you reply to each student!
3. Bookings and cancellations
Verbling has an automatic booking process, so students can book any available hour in your schedule with a 12-hour notice without asking for your confirmation. You can choose to extend this period to 24 or 48 hours in your Teacher Admin. It is very important to keep your schedule up to date, so it shows only those hours that you can actually teach. You’re free to unschedule a lesson later, but we encourage you to have your schedule up to date to avoid any rescheduling issues. If you miss, cancel or unschedule too many lessons due to inconsistent or inaccurate schedule, you may not be able to teach on Verbling in the future.
4. Verbling commission and payments
Verbling applies a 15% commission on teacher rates. This means that if you set your hourly rate at $20, you will receive $17 (85%). You can change your rates at any point.
Shortly after your lesson is completed, the payment for the lesson with be added to your Earnings page.
Teachers can cash out their earnings once a week. You will be able to add your cash out method, once you can click on the "Cash out" button on your Earnings page (if you don't have any Earnings yet, that button will not be clickable).
5. Verbling lessons and how to conduct them
Verbling technology allows teachers to start classes on Google Chrome or Firefox on PC/Mac only; mobile devices are not supported (for teachers; students, however, may follow a lesson with the official Verbling Android/iOS app).
At the scheduled time, easily start your lesson with the click of a button. Once your session is live, your student will be able to join and your lesson can begin. You must begin and end your lesson on time for it to be registered.
All lessons should be taught on Verbling; offering students to go to Skype or Zoom is strictly against Verbling policies!
You can see what a Verbling classroom looks like and try out the tools using the Demo Lesson simulation--be sure to check it out before giving your first real class!
